WHO IS RILEY?
Hi there!
I’m passionate about community storytelling, all things audio, and municipal politics.
After studying political science and philosophy at UBC, I was pulled to journalism by a fervor for local news. A BCIT Broadcast and Online Journalism graduate, I’ve honed my skills in multiplatform reporting while exploring the world media has to offer.
My 2025 short audio documentary, Out on the Ice, won me CBC’s Alexis Mazurin Award which honours excellence in radio documentary storytelling. I was also privileged to be one of the recipients of the 2025 Jack Webster Foundation Student Journalism Awards for my audio storytelling and written reporting.
I’m always eager to sit through that four hour city council meeting, go to that crowded police presser, or get out into the community to talk to real people about their very real problems. Need someone to talk about potholes or municipal garbage collection? Consider me your girl. Wondering why the neighbourhood is in a tizzy about that new property development? I’m already on the case.
I felt called to the world of reporting through the many people I’ve been fortunate to meet. Spending years in the service industry, I’ve come across people from all walks of life who have rich, impactful, wonderful stories that I feel need to be shared. Everyone experiences the world in a different way, and I think broadening the horizons of perspective allows for more compassionate, informed, and inspired storytelling.
My portfolio showcases my love for community stories and my skills in all facets of multimedia journalism. If you’d like to see more of my work, check it out here.
When I’m not immersed in local news, you can find me spoiling my two cats or practising one of my many crafting hobbies!
